Denny's Maple Bacon Sundae. Here is an except from their website: "Bacon makes a classic ice cream sundae even more awesome. We start with maple-flavored syrup, and a scoop of rich, creamy vanilla ice cream and then a generous sprinkle of our diced hickory-smoked bacon. Add another sweet layer of syrup and vanilla ice cream topped with even more bacon and a drizzle of syrup."It's as if a child thought this up. "Let's put bacon and ice-cream together and eat it- YUM!" I feel as if these food manufactures are actually just trying to appeal to the child inside of us. The child who wishes that they could eat any type of food combination that sounds good because they don't understand the consequences of eating foods like these. Except in this situation, we don't have a parent to say to us, "don't eat that it's not good for you." We are now the adults making these decisions for ourselves.

When you see something like this it makes me, and I'm sure others, wonder who is behind all of this madness? It seems as if we, the Americans, are purposely perpetuating our obesity epidemic and health crisis because we can capitalize from it. I think it is safe to say that those marketing for Denny's know that no other chain similar to Denny's offers a Bacon sundae therefore anyone who wants something of the like will go there and only there so indulge on a heart-attack in a glass. I'm convinced we are capitalizing obesity and other health aliments. Obesity is a money maker. What are your thoughts?
I totally agree. Food is a HUGE part of our economy. In 2010 U.S. consumers spent over about $500 million dollars at grocery and food stores and about $380 million at restaurants and food service business. That's a total of $880 million dollars in 2010. For comparison consumers spent $346 million on gasoline. We have to eat to live, but the food industry knows that Americans are willing to pay a lot of money for food we don't necessarily need to live. There is no doubt that the food industry is capitalizing on food that is making Americans very sick. It's very disappointing that the government does not provide more education in schools and through the media about the dangers of eating foods like the Denny's Bacon Sundae.
